Q:What was your personal reason for agreeing to the present political alliance and do you think the new alliance will further deteriorate your voter base?
I am the general secretary of this new alliance and General Sarath Fonseka is a war hero and he sacrificed his life immensely for the sake of the war. Today, this government is falsifying its charges and treating him like a criminal. That is not fair and it will not be tolerated by the people of this country. The government can’t infringe on his political rights by imprisoning him. To take a stance for this we have come together in this alliance named the Democratic National Alliance (DPA). Going by this we don’t think that it will destabilize the JVP voter base.
Q:Who will be your Prime Ministerial candidate?
General Fonseka will most certainly be our Prime minister since he was our Presidential candidate and for his work in wiping off terrorism. We need a leader like him who can deliver on his promises.
During the last presidential elections General Fonseka won although the results were changed but we are going to keep our eyes open during this election. We ask the people not to lose hope but to cast their vote. Unlike the presidential elections this elections will see a fight for the preferential votes which makes it harder for politicians to sweep to victory like they did during the presidential elections. We predicted the present government was using the Executive to break down democracy and we need your vote to stop it.
