its ok brother. i had confusion on similarity of your and hindu's style. therefore i asked question on your offer that you have not reward system and aspectation from God through worship then why you worship him like hindu's as they worship for reward and have aspectation from their idols and statues..,
its ok. this is your style of respect which is not familiar to non budhish.
Well, first of all, you have to stop your comparison with whatever Hindus do since that has nothing to do with your initial and specific question "why Buddhists 'worship' (I don't know what you mean by this word.) Buddha statues?"
Ok ...let us take you to the dictionary.
The word "worship" has several meanings.
Firstly, the meaning you have understood is, "appeal accorded/offered to a deity." which is similar to the meaning of the word pray, which is "petition or a solict help from a supernatural highier being." Muslims and may be Hindus mean these definitions when they use the word "worship."
Nevertheless, there is another definition to the word "worship", and it is respect/ condition of respecting for someone or something worthy.(worth + ship), and that exactly what Buddhists do. They pay their respect, gratitude, homage to the highly blessed one, the noble and perfectly enlightened one, Lord Buddha.
