MOU between the Government of Sri Lanka and Google was just signed to launch the Google Loon project here. Hopefully in a few months every person and every device on the island will be covered by 3G. Service providers will enter into agreements with “floating cell towers” that will be shared bringing down transmission costs leading to further reductions in the cost of service provision.
This should give more space for them to improve technology, content and service. All in all, I feel today’s agreement will certainly provide a huge boost to our game plan to create a knowledge-based highly competitive social market economy that will help every household achieve their dreams.

Dhanika Perera : Google Loon is an Internet Connectivity Technology that can provide Internet Access to anywhere in the world through a set of balloons placed on the atmosphere above 20Km. The whole Sri Lanka can be covered by 13 balloons giving Internet Access to the whole country. smile emoticon
