Even after the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Executive Committee's firm decision to take stern action against the SLFP members of local councils who vote to defeat the budgets of the ruling alliance driven local governments, the ruling alliance continues to lose the budgets of some local councils.
Following the trend, the budget presented by the Chairman of the Mihinthale Pradeshiya Sabha of Anuradhapura district was supported only by himself in a secret ballot for it. Five members of the ruling alliance also voted to defeat the budget by a wide margin of seven votes.
Sri Lanka Freedom Party Working Committee that met on 20th under the patronage of the party leader President Mahinda Rajapaksa decided to sack all the party councilors who voted against the budget of local administration bodies controlled by ruling alliance.
Speaking of the trend, a veteran party member says that the ruling party members of local governments do not work as a team and the individual members are supported by MPs of the area that are rival with each other due to preferential vote competition.
