The JVP today claimed that former Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was in Sri Lanka last month for a “private agreement” with the government to back the campaign of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

There was no immediate confirmation from the Government about the visit of the former Thai Prime Minister, but the JVP produced a document to prove that the former premier arrived on December 12 and passed through the VIP Lounge at the Bandaranaike International airport. He had left the following day.

“We are calling the government disclose the “private agreement” which the government has with the former Thai premier”, JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe told a news conference.

“We understand the Sri Lankan community traveling through Thailand as well as our mission in Bangkok has been inconvenienced by inviting the for Thai premier who has allegations of corruption against him”, he said
