A UNP politician in the Rattota area was seriously injured in an attack by two schoolboys who mistakenly thought him to be ‘grease yaka’, police said.
The victim, Athula Wickremanayake, a Pradeshiya Sabha member was returning home around 11.00 p.m. when the two schoolboys had questioned him and in turn he had said it was not their business to question him, according to a senior police officer in the area.
The two boys had attacked him with a pole and a bicycle chain seriously injuring the Pradeshiya Sabha member and soon after he was rushed to the Rattota Hospital.
The incident comes in the wake of a series of similar cases in various parts of the country where persons have killed or attacked persons on suspicion.
The two boys were remanded until August 26.
