The Commonwealth Games Federation said Thursday that only the Gold Coast and the Sri Lankan city of Hambantota had met the March 31 deadline to nominate as candidate cities. The successful bidder for the games, which features countries and states of the former British Empire, will be announced in October 2011. Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, and Auckland, New Zealand, had expressed interest, but neither provided bids to the federation. Auckland did not have the New Zealand government's financial support. This year's games will be in New Delhi in October and the 2014 version in Glasgow, Scotland.
