Hard Disk Spins,But not working..

I got a 80GB IDE Hard disk drive(Westen Digital _ WD800BB) & I am using it as a external drive.
Since tomorrow I found out that the hard disk is not showing in My Computer(Using XP SP2)Also not detected by the BIOS.
.I plugged it for several times but nothing happened but I can here it Spins. I am connecting it through the USB port. I got it to a com. Shop to check it.They told it was dead and cannot be recovered. That is the most dreadful thing I ever heard.
I got so many projects in it.(PS, Premier, Flash ,Dreamweaver ,3D s max , & lots of JAVA programs.)
75GB of above programs. Is there any possibility to recover those files.I badly need them.Please help.
