Anyway guys. I thought to let you knw the aftermath... :P  I just went ahead and bought a digital camera from Amazon.com. (It is a really good one and I was so tempted to buy it. Of course I had a look here: in SL it costs around Rs. 35k) Price on Amazon was about 1/3 of the local price(abt $115). Its only shipped to US from Amazon but I had a US postal address ready. From there I got the package couriered. DHL paid all the damn local taxes before bringing it to my doorstep. Whole thing took little less than 2 weeks and the service was at best both by Amazon, my US remailer and DHL. (Camera is really good too. I'm happy :D ) But the local taxes here @ SL made me so irritated!!! They have implied lot of taxes(customs duty, VAT, EDI, CESS, etc..) and it is even close to the items' original price. (Fortunately its for Digital cameras: for computer accessories taxes are much lower than that) Bottom line is : Yes buying online saved me quite a few thousand rupees(compared with buying locally). However I'm really unhappy that they extort that much of hard earned money as taxes. Yeah.. I'm still paying the government taxes even with my salary u knw. ;) But anyway hope I'll be shopping soon(after I got some money at hand of course) for more things. But it needs a careful analysis of prices b4 buying. You always have to calculate the cost with taxes in mind unless for items is free of taxes. cheers
