Former Attorney General Dappula De Livera has continued to serve as a legal advisor upon his retirement. He denied the offer of a foreign ambassadorship in the need of serving the people.

Livera has appeared for a case on trial in the Negombo Magistrate Court yesterday (28) regarding the establishment of a new funeral service provider in Thaladuwa area. Livera has appeared on behalf of the service provider party.

The parlor belongs to the father of Nishara Jayaratne, who served as the then media coordinator of Livera at the AG’s Office. Accordingly, Livera has offered his service to Jayaratne Funeral Directors as a legal adviser.

Appearing on behalf of his client, Livera stated that construction of the building for the parlor has not yet been initiated, asking the Court to dismiss the complaint without a hearing in the event that there is no legal provision to object and charge against an unfinished building.

As the case was taken up again today (29), the former AG pointed out that the Magistrate Court has no legal jurisdiction to prevent the construction of the building.

Accordingly, Negombo Chief Magistrate T.N.L. Mahawatta dismissed the complaint without trial accepting the defense counsel’s points.
