thanks bro for taking credit for my posts i did on gps navigation in srilanka including 'detailed' instructions which i believe are more detailed than yours for comparison. least anyone of you in this http://www.elakiri.com/forum/showthread.php?t=215093&page=2 page could do is the thank me for the original posting of gps navigation in srilanka. without me, no one would have ever known that garmin had a srilanka map. see following links and thread numbers ( all which i wrote) http://www.elakiri.com/forum/showthread.php?t=184400&page=3 thread #24,#29,#30 http://www.elakiri.com/forum/showthread.php?t=184400&page=4 thread #31,#32,#33,#35,#38 http://www.elakiri.com/forum/showthread.php?t=205510&page=2 thread #17 http://www.elakiri.com/forum/showthread.php?t=197950&page=4 thread #38 the link below has real pictures of the device in action. and it shows what native nokia map which comes with all Nokia N series and E series show for comparison. http://www.elakiri.com/forum/showthread.php?t=184400&page=3 thread #29 my advice to you all, before u get this working, first do the following - 1) get a stable car phone holder, clip on and sticky ones dont stay properly, modify that to your advantage. last thing u need is your 'expensive' phone going out of the window or falling inbetween your legs. 2) get a phone charger for your phone, a must 3) figure out and try to use a one press button activation for garmin as opposed to having to go through the menus to load the bloody program. first two attempts and ull say, nah, its ok but after that, ull feel like throwing the phone out of the window. 4) when approaching checkpoints, figure out how to hide the program in the background by pressing home button or jog dial on the phone and pray it doesnt speak ' checkpoint ahead or satellite reception lost'. last point, as long as u input a destination, no matter where u are in srilanka, ull get directions but use your head also, dont follow exactly what the device tells you, happend to me and i nearly went through someones house and it was raining cats and dogs and i was in the jungle ok. and yes, the map has faults, but ive been working on it for the past 7 months and have updated it considerably. the case of 'no road names, cities, towns' all fixed now by ME!. for the record, id like to say this so everyone can understand a fundamental fact - Ive been using this software and map since december 2008, the map came out in november 2008. found it by accident when i was doing research on nokia e71, a girl talked bout it on youtube and i got thinking, if she can do it, so can i, 3 part video, see it. I worked on the fix aswell. if anyone wants it, you know where to find me. tested thoroughly out of colombo where significant map errors are likely to occur but have come across 4 only so far. a friend of mine is correcting the map as we speak and updated map will be posted at his discretion. as for me, ill continue developing the maps, adding hotspots as I go along. and I, single handed, collected over 5000 waypoints which I marked individually in person at those locations hence accuracy 100% as opposed to values taken from websites. and anyone who uses Nokia 5800 with garmin mobile xt and it crashes on you. ha ha, u have a bug in the phone,no way to fix it, even with latest firmware. so if you have any sense of manners, credit me for the initial boost of making everyone aware that gps works in srilanka and there ARE maps for srilanka. even now, all i see is, 1)gps is useless in srilanka 2)its controlled by the gov, 3) its no use, there are too many roads for gps to work 4) roads change from two way to one way 5) gps takes too long to lock 6) gov has banned it- gov cant ban something foreign to them. they have no power of it. 7) maps not as good as google maps - bullshit. to me, garmin maps superior to google maps. google maps good, only for colombo. and I hate to see your monthly phone bill if your using google map for navigation. 8) last and my favourite, gov can track u if u use gps in srilanka. there are two ( not one) provider who is selling gps navigation on mass market now, they are - Dialog and Sunlanka. have seen both, tested both. go see for yourselves and come to your own conclusions. and then see my pictures of my design. then ull realise something... thanks... ps: i have nothing against this person dinuksha_asela, but id advice before u speak, think what ur saying, as it can land you in serious shit like lawsuits.
