Seeing that you are not that familiar with Linux, I would really recommend you NOT installing redhat 9. It's a old release that's not supported anymore, and most likely you will run in to a lot of problems with getting current hardware working.

Instead go get the latest ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download) or if you want to stick with the Red hat flavour, Fedora (http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora) these have better support right now and are much easier to use for a newcomer for Linux.

Because it's a oldass release, you can do everything you could do in Redhat 9 in a recent releases. Is there a reason you MUST to use this version?


Have you even tried booting with that CD and following the prompt to install?
