Friendz, I want to buy a DVD Writer. So, I want to get cleared the following facts.

    1. What is better to buy, a DVDR or DVDRW?. (Is it really an advantage to buy a DVDRW, except it's rewritable feature. I mean, does it give trouble later or not.)

    2. What is the best/better brand in the current market?.

    3. Where to find the best price & the quality of the products?. (I think that Barclays is good. But, want to know your comments & experience).

    4. And finally, I'd like to know anything that can be useful to me.

Pls, help me to figure out these. 'Coz, I have wanted to buy one soon.

    Thanx in advance.
    :)

machan as the experiance of 2 friends of mine ASUS writer is a shit
i m using a gigabyte DVD RW but i dont think they still have this brand because it is with me since 2005 january and still works fine
as my opinion i would like to say just ignor all main brands because before having the current DVD RW im using i also used samsung n had a shit
also all DVD writers come with rewritable function
DVDR means DVD reader not a witer
also there are DVD RAMS i think u better buy one i heard they have inbuilt memory or something but i dont know the exact difference
i have no idea about a good dealer its better u go around unity plaza and decide the best price
    gud luck

Humm the best brand are Samsung and ASUS (I have both and so far no problems)
Reneas is right it should cost you around 3000 to 4000
Yes I think barclays should be ok.
I m guessing you want to know what type of dvds to buy.
I recommend that you use DVDs(Buy known brands like TDK,Verbatime etc)
With regard to DVDRW's dont buy more than two cause realistically you wont be able to use them for more than 5-10 times.Dont use them for long term data storage cause sometimes they stop reading after a long time.(If you have external data storage like flash drives and external hard drives you wont use these at all so think before buying dvdrws)

When buying a writter get one with light scribe cause that is the latest tecnology.

    1. All DVD writers support DVD RW disks, AFAIK there are no DVD R only writers.
    2. Some of the popular brands : Sony = LiteON , Pioneer, Plextor , Asus, Samsung, LG
    3. Buy from a place with good aftersales support/warranty (don’t buy from a place like PC house)

    Additional info:
Most DVD writers/ROMs come with a region lock, you can change it 5 times. After the final change it will be permanently locked to the last region. However, there are few ways to get around this problem. One way is to use a software tool like AnyDVD or DVD Region Free. Or you can do a firmware mod to your writer by flashing it with a region free firmware, however this is somewhat dangerous. Finally, there are some DVD ROMs that have secret ways of resetting the region lock, I once had an Asus drive in which if I press the eject and play button for few seconds the lock will be reset. But you don’t have to worry too much about this because most pirated DVDs are region free. This is only a problem if you play original DVDs from many different regions. But still, because there are so many software tools out there you can easily get around it.
