The WGAE and WGAW are two labor unions that represent film, television and radio writers working in the United States.The strike is against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), a trade organization that represents the interests of American film and television producers. Over 12,000 writers are affected by the strike.The strike was expected to be prolonged; sources said that a settlement was unlikely before the start of 2008.The last such strike was the 1988 Writers Guild of America strike; it lasted 22 weeks, costing the American entertainment industry an estimated 500 million dollars.Because of this strike popular TV series's such as Heroes, Smallville, Stargate Atlatis and other American TV series's are on the verge of cancellation.Heroes has divided it's second season to two parts.The Heroes Volume 2 : Generations is now only 11 episodes and it will end on 3rd December.Volume 3 is named Exodus and will contain episodes 12-24. No word yet on when it'll go in to production (If it goes in to production)Smallville season 7 will end on episode 15.
