Both companies have cheap entry level and high-end premium products. Therefore you have to compare specific models, not the brands. In my experience, between the Senhiser cx300 and Philips SHE9700 I find the Philips to have a deeper clearer bass without equalizing. But if you change the settings of your audio output (apply bass boosting effects etc..) Senhiser can also reproduce clean low frequency sounds without any distortions. But with no equalizing Philips has more bass with slightly muffled highs while Senhiser has a comparatively less amount of bass but clear highs. I had another pair of Philips earphones before this (now broken) they also had very good bass. Between the two brands I think Senhiser charges a premium for the brand name, therefore IMO you can get better value for the money with Philips. BTW Shure is another very good earphone manufacturer, but again like Senhiser they charge for the brand name.
