An apparel operator and his wife were picked up by police a short while ago in connection with an alleged job scam fraud where some 80 plus persons were cheated of an estimated 125 million.
According to police the couple was arrested at a location in the southern town of Matara while they were collecting more funds from people with the promise of jobs and visas in Italy and other European capitals.
Police were also able to recover a large number of National Identity Cards (NIC’s) travel documents and other foreign currency from the suspects.
The couple was the owners of a garment factory in Kiribathgoda, police said.
The Matara police are conducting further investigations.
