Message: <blockquote data-quote="jess" data-source="post: 2875765" data-attributes="member: 1818">its not that we are not smart, its buddhism didnt orginate here.  the majority of people here are catholic or christian, so i have never been introduced to any other religion until i came to new york city and i find it very interesting to learn not only about buddhism but also about hinduism, islam,judaism, and if buddhism is anything like christianity where it has so many different name evangelical, baptist, methodist, episcopal and so on and so on, then it would be really hard for westerners to understand, b.c even tho those are a part of christianity and they beleive basically the same things, each branch has diffeent ways in worshipping. i dunno if chinese buddhism is any different then sri lankan buddhism, i know the buddhas look different. so if more people understood buddhism like i have come to know, where im from everyone is old fashioned and  are not interested in any religion that worships statues since in christianity we call worshipping an idol, which they do in hinduism, i have explained to all of my family that buddhism is NOT a religion it is a philosophy, just like malli said above that buddha said something like hes not a god hes a guide.  anyway, we are all human beings and no matter wat religion we all bleed just the same. we all gonna die someday no matter wat we beleive.</blockquote>
