In my opinion HNB offers best rates among the popular banks, By Popular I mean well spread branch network within the island

Even their web and mobile is good where you can easily open USD FDs

Whatever the bank you select, try to become a private/priority banking customer and get a dedicated customer relationship manager.
Whenever you want to convert to LKR, talk to them and ask for a special rate.

theres a transaction fee 22-40USD depending on bank as these transactions are done by either jp morgan chase or goldman etc. be aware

Not true, You can negotiate for 1000USD+ from HNB, Up until now they gave me 3,4 rupees more than the advertised rate.

i also used HSBC, while working different countries, if you have HSBC account can open HSBC account other countries also, if HSBC available. Now Canada closed HSBC and accounts transfer to RBC

@danik You need a letter/your contract mentioning remmitance info from your company so your bank balance wont be automatically converted to LKR, from what I've heard Commercial and HNB are the easiets to make accounts, Sampath is bit strict in comparison due to some recent frauds done by a certain famous relegious character. Rates not much of a different and depends but couple of months back NTB had lower rate.

I have a PFC account in NTB, service is good, app is okay.
we can call and ask for a better rate when exchanging.

I have fx accounts in several local banks and HNB has been the best one in my experience for pfca accounts. HNB app is also one of the best local banking apps I have used.
