the Do It Yourself store giant in the UK- is currently selling candles made in the shape of a Buddha statue, in all their branches in Britain. This 'Buddha candle'- as they call it - is sold at £ 5.99 each. (Rs.1100.00) The wick of the candle is on top of the Buddha head. The majority of the customers who shop at Homebase are obviously non-Buddhists.

Many buddhists who came to know about this believe that under the pretext of lighting a candle, what they are knowingly or unknowingly doing is burning a Buddha statue and that's the whole motive of the manufacture who is behind this.

After several complains to the Sri Lanka High Commission in London, the deputy High Commissioner, Mr Ganegamaarachchi said he would take action immediately.

if you are a true beliver in religion then you dont need to worry about it, because worshiping to a stachu or a picture is not the religion. religion is in your heart and you soul nothing else.........

I don’t quite agree....It's true that it doesn’t matter you worship a statue or not unless you listen to what lord Buddha said and try to change your life accordingly.. yes it should come from deep down...

But... A statue helps us to collect our thoughts and keep our mind at one place that's why it is there, The great person that's LORD BUDDHA really existed and his statues pictures are assets to all Buddhists! and no one can just simply make candles out of them and burn it to dust... or print it on a bikini at their will... cuz that's actually a direct assault on most cultures especially on SRI LANKA!!!!
