The Indian Army has cancelled a proposed training program of a contingent of 25 Sri Lankan soldiers in the wake of protests from Tamil outfits in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, according to local media reports Saturday.
The Sri Lankan soldiers, who reached Defense Service Staff College at Wellington in the state's Nilgiris district on Friday for a month's training, were sent back following the protests.
Some 200 members of various pro-Sri Lankan Tamil outfits demonstrated in front of the Madras Regimental Center at Wellington, protesting the training program, alleging that Tamils in Sri Lanka were suffering at the hands of that country's military.
