NEW DELHI, Oct 27 (KUNA) -- The Indian radar installed in Vavuniya in Northern Sri Lanka provided timely warning about the air strike by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) last Monday at the Anuradhapura air base, which claimed 30 lives and destroyed aircraft.
LTTE's light aircraft were located by the Indian installed radar system in Vavuniya, but no Sri Lankan aircraft could intercept the two LTTE jets which bombed the Air Force base, news agency Press Trust of India reported Saturday quoting a top Sri Lankan Defence official.
The official said that the Indian made radar worked efficiently.
"The Air Force's attack capability has not been reduced in anyway due to the attack and we are hoping to quickly replace the aircraft we lost," the official said. The attack destroyed eight aircraft of Sri Lankan Air Force worth 15 million usd.
