when some jealous medical students heard that there is going to be a private medical faculyt in malabe
they did everything to stop it
but lol for them
they lost
it is going to start next september
Are there any elakirians who has applied for that..
good thing those jealous people lost..
think just beause they managed to score small amount of marks more than many better studnets
they can be the winners
anyway it is only in countries like sri lanka where medical isthe such a big thing
in developed countries
it is just another profession
it cant even come close to molecular biologists
scientsists
engineers
lawyers
yesssss

i persoanlly dont like medicine
but i wanna the know the comments of elakiri members

well...let me start by sayin that I too am a foreign Medical Grad who finished my degree from bangalore,India & have returned back to Srilanka..

The reason people like myself had to go abroad for the sake of a degree inspite of getting A/L results of 1A & 2B's (which is more than enought to enter MBBS course anywhere in the world except in SL) is the wrong policy of selecting admissions on a district basis therefore enabling outstation fellows from places like mannar & hambanthota with results like 1C & 2S's to courses like medicine instead of the fellow from Colombo, kandy, galle or Matara who did way more better...
Ultimately its only these fellows who are unable to clear the exams in the Uni due to their lack of knowledge in basic A/L stuff & most of all in English language
So these selfish fellows get piled up in the university system island wide & get drafted in to all these useless political movements such as the JVP to engage in these sorts of selfish agitation against any Progressive moves by the authorities for the betterment of our citizens such as opening up of Private medical colleges

Just because you don't like medicine, you dnt have to be bitter about it by saying all those rubbish about lawyers & engineers..

Well my friend, medical practitioners ARE scientists & molecular biology is just an off shoot from the medical curriculum as even we are well versed with the latest molecular biological techniques.
You don't hace to be intelligent to be engineers as 1+1 =2 all the time in engineering whereas in medicine, there's no clear cut demarcation about any disease or treatment at all as the human body always needs analysing power & intelligence to deal with it....lawyers..!!! Seriously?? I wouldn't even wanna comment about lawyers

If you open your eyes & have a look at the world, the MBBS degree is the most coverted & sought after degree in & outside Srilanka..

Just because a degree is sought after doesn't make the degree a whole lot better...in countries like the UK,USA MBBS degrees are not sort after by the native citizens of those countries simply due to the fact that they are not as hard working enough compared to students in Asian countries so they could spend 5-7 years surrounded with books putting about 16 hours of studies per day during exam times instead of enjoying going out with their friends & livinf life to the "Fullest"
So just bcos these lazy bums want to join courses like enginering or law or journalism so they dnt have to study much, doesn't at all make those streams very good

coming back to the topic..this Private medical college which is scheduled to be opened in malabe is an off shore campus of Nizhny novoragod medical college, which is about 450km away from moskow in Russia..

I've come across many grads from this college in Srilanka till now & their knowledge seems more than adequate to practice in Srilanka. But whether the same goes for the Malabe campus we'll have to just watch & wait till it starts & produces the first batch of grads 5 years later..
As this college is also regarded as a foreign degree, those grads will also have to sit for the ACT 16 ERPM examination conducted by the medical Council & their adaquacy assesed by appearing for the written paper & then the Clinical/viva exam
So I think this is a very good step taken towards the future of the country & I beleive at least 1 private college should be allowed to be opened per province in Srilanka
But all these colleges should be regulated well & standards maintained with inspections regularly by the medical council as it happens in forign countries..
proper entry criterias should be maintained & the vacancies should be filled by an entrance test to make it fair for all & to prevent dubious characters such as politicians children with low or no results) from gaining access to these courses.

machan just because you don't know anything going around you,its not right to pick up some misinformed fellows statement & dance around the whole place..

    1) as for the case regarding the Left/Right ear scene,....No one cut anyone's ear off like a butcher as you had got to know but merely performed a surgery on an ear..Its an accepted principle in ENT practice that if a patient presents with Chronic suppurative Otitis Media (a.k.a Long standing ear infection in lay man's terms) to prevent the infection from spreading via the nasal sinuses from 1 ear to the other,& damaging the healthy ear drum,a protective surgery has to be performed first on the healthy side instead of the affected side & then taken care of the infected ear...So only misinformed fellows who dnt know jack go out & cru about it whilc the medical council launched an inuiery regarding this matter & it was found that the surgeon in question has carried out his procedure according to the correct principals of treat ment & was founf to be not guilty.I bet your informant never told you about this fact ever....

2)The Thermal scanners were infact not working during the initial few days of the swine flue outbreak as pointed out correctly by the GMOA as well as political parties such as UNP & JVP...If you are siding with Nimal siripala's statements all the time then he's taken you for a ride all these days..While he continously accused the GMAO of lying,I myself never saw a thermal scanner in the airport when i returned from India recently in the initial part of the outbreak while siripala repeatedly "assured" (Hoodwinked more of some vulnerable sections of the public who fall for his statements) that 4 scanners were working perfectly well at the airport...later of course the scanners were repaired & put in to use recently just before the 1st swine flue case was detected in srilanka

the scanners themselves are not a very fool proof method of identifying a patient with swine flue as it only records the rise of body temperature seen in a fever in affected persons(which can be controlled effectivly by just 2 tablets or Panadol which can fool the machine & bring the body temperature to normal tempararily) & is not a magic box which can detect whether any person has swine flue or not..
