A match-winning performance by Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya gave the Mumbai Indians their first victory in the Indian Premier League on Wednesday.
Jayasuriya took 3-14, the best figures of the tournament so far, to help his side to a seven-wicket win over the high-flying Kolkata Knight Riders.
Jayasuriya's spell helped restrict the home side to 137, before Mumbai, led by Dwayne Bravo (64 from 53 balls), chased down the total with eight balls to spare.
Sri Lankan veteran Jayasuriya also hit 18 runs from 10 balls, took a catch and had a hand in running out Australian captain Ricky Ponting.
Ponting managed only 19 from 31 balls while his Kolkata team-mate David Hussey scored 17 from 20 balls.

If anyone has any dobts about Jayasuriya's failure as a batsman... u only hav to look at his performance in the IDL..

Almost all the major batsmen have made their mark... (Except Ponting who is hopelessly out of form).

Jayasuriya is now old..he gets beaten easily for pace & movement now.. the quick reflexes are gone now... it was sad to see him struggling against Bret Lee t2 matches before... even to Sharma..

U cant compare Ponting with Jaya because...one batsman is failing because he is out of form.. the other is failing because of slow reflexes & simply being too old..)

He should never play 4 SL ever again...(even if he gets a gud innings in the tournament one of these days)

scoring a good innings after 10 mediocre once is not good a performance by an opening bat...let alone any bat
