UNP defector and Minister Johnston Fernando has sent a message to two LTTE suicide bombers currently in custody that he would get them released during the next government tenure after the elections. The two suicide cadres were transported from Mankulam to Colombo in Johnston’s official vehicle.
Johnston had transported these two LTTE suicide cadres to Colombo when he was rebelling against the UNP leadership. The two LTTE suicide cadres have been transported in his vehicle in order to cover up a business transaction he has had with the organization at the time. Johnston is involved in a motor spare parts importing business together with his brother and he had sold several container loads of spare parts to the LTTE.
The two LTTE bombers had been brought to Colombo as one condition of the business deal. However, Johnston decided to defect the UNP and join the government after the two LTTE bombers were captured by the authorities.
The two bombers have believed that Johnston would secure their release with the help of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa after taking over a ministerial portfolio in the government.
However, since Johnston failed to secure their release, the two bombers have given all the details to the TID. After hearing this, Johnston had sent a message to the two LTTE bombers that he would secure their release after taking over a ministerial portfolio in the next government.
