Kaleidescape’s M500 Blu-Ray Recorder Plays Backed Up Discs From A Server (With A Catch)
Kaleidescape is in the high-end media server business, and their new M300 and M500 models are no exception (just wait till you see the price.) The M Series backs up your discs and stores their images on a server for easy playback. They’re built on “M-Class architecture,” and that means an easy user interface and 1080p support.
Interestingly, the M500 model copies Blu-rays onto your home server. There’s just one thing — the Blu-ray disc is required to be in the M500′s disc drive for server playback. Yeah…kinda defeating the whole point. To make things easier, the company is releasing a loader that will keep a large amount of discs in the system at once. But that’s not coming for a few months.
The M300 and M500 are available May 18th for $2495 and $3,995, respectively.
