Kaspersky is one of the best two virus guards in the world. Its virus signatures are very powerful. However, NOD32, which is the other virus guard in the frontline, is better than Kaspersky in heuristics scanning (i.e. detecting viruses that are not listed in the definition files) and it's very, very fast.

However, NOD32 doesn't natively support any of the Vista builds. But you can get it to work if you play with it a bit. Not sure about Kaspersky's Vista support though.

Norton and McAfee are junk. I'd rather live with viruses than any of them. :D

Anytime :)
However, I'm using AVG Pro 7.5 in Vista RC2. If I used NOD32, I would have to disable UAC and Windows Defender. AVG is not bad, but in XP, I would always use NOD32, not even Kaspersky. Kaspersky was too slow for me.

Hey

Some info for u guys... ;)

Impact on the system performances

Kaspersky Antivirus 6.0

The software makes start Windows in 26 seconds (against 22 seconds without antivirus). The compression 250 mb file is done in 54 seconds (51 without antivirus).
Conclusion:

Kaspersky Antivirus 6,0 confirms that it still the most reliable antivirus. The interface is practical and pleasant .

Norton Antivirus 2006

The software makes Windows start in 36 seconds (against 22 seconds without antivirus), a rather considerable variation. The compression of 250 mb file is done in 51,7 seconds (51 without antivirus), the impact is near the null.

McAfee VirusScan 10

The software makes Windows start in 28 seconds (against 22 seconds without antivirus), an acceptable variation. The compression of file with 250 Mb is done in 51,1 seconds (51 without antivirus).

NOD32 Antivirus System 2.5

The software makes Windows start in 23,4 seconds (against 22 seconds without antivirus), a negligible variation. The compression of 250mb file is done in 51,8 seconds (51 without antivirus).

Antivirus AVG Free 7.1

The software makes Windows start in 46,7 seconds (against 22 seconds without antivirus),poor resulte. The compression of file with 250 Mb is done on the other hand in 52,8 seconds (51 without antivirus), a negligible impact.

Tests proved that AVG remains with poor antivirus range. The rate of detection is about acceptable but it remains lower than Avast and Antivir.

Antivirus BitDefender 10

The software makes Windows start in 34,4 seconds (against 22 seconds without antivirus) . The compression of file 250 Mb is done in 56,6 seconds (51 without antivirus). we notes the light impact on the performances.

PC-cillin Internet Security 14

The software makes Windows start in 30 seconds (against 22 seconds without antivirus), a notable but acceptable difference. The compression of 250mb file is done in 52,8 seconds (51 without antivirus).

First two OK. But I don't think Panda should be there. Don't know how the latest version of it performs (if there is one), but version 2006 made the PC run very slow.
