Due to the lack of "Naphtha" to operate the Kelanitissa Power Station (KPS), it might be disabled from tomorrow morning (13), Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Chairman Nalinda Ilangakoon said.
He said that the plant has enough naphtha to operate until tomorrow morning and also mentioned that the petroleum corporation is ready to give naphtha only for cash in hand.
He further said that the Electricity Board is negotiating with the authorities to find money to pay the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to buy the naphtha needed to operate the plant.
If they can give some money this afternoon or so, the naphtha will be received.
KPS produces about 165 MW for the national electricity grid.

Naptha is typically derived from crude oil and used as a fuel for power generation, although it is not as common as other fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas, or crude oil. Naptha is a relatively high-quality fuel that is composed mostly of hydrocarbons with low sulfur content. It has a high energy content and a low ash content, which makes it an attractive fuel for power generation. However, it is not as widely used as other fuels because it is more expensive and less readily available. Power plants that use naptha as a fuel typically burn it in boilers to generate steam, which is then used to drive turbines and generate electricity.
