The main suspect in the abduction of a nine year old boy from Sapugaskanda was shot dead by Police on Friday night when he attempted to hurl a grenade at them.
The man identified as Suresh Kumar was taken into custody while he was hiding in Vavuniya. Information about his whereabouts had been obtained from the other suspect involved in the abduction who as arrested earlier, Police said.
The child was abducted last week from near his home in Sapugaskanda and was later found abandoned in Kantale. A business rivalry is believed to be the reason for the kidnapping.
A female relative of the dead suspect in Matale also has been taken into custody for interrogation.
