On the 9th of October 2007 I bought a DVD-Rewriter from Kobian Technologies Panadura. Its model number is AOpen DSW2012P. From the first day I bought it the writer kept throwing errors and stuff. And I was told that it was because of bad quality empty DVD’s. Around a week ago I wanted to burn a Dual Layer Disc (DL) for the first time (normally I don’t need more than 4.5GB), so I went and bought some Dual Layer empty DVD’s but soon found out that when I inserted these discs the DVD writer did not detect them as Black Discs (Nero said no Disc in Drive). So when I contacted the Panadura Branch I was told that they send the defective to the Engineering at Papiliana and would at least take two weeks because they have to send it as well. So I hand delivered it to the Kobian Engineering Division at Papiliana.
Once I went there. I explained the problem and a technician came and took the DVD-Writer to the room from the looks of seems like the managers room. Then he came out and said “This writer does not support Dual Layer discs”, I was like WHAT?! Because I read the box before I bought the product and I always keep my boxes until warranty gets void. So I showed him the back of the AOpen box which stated under “Recording Capacity” 8.5GB +/- R DL. So then the technician took the box and the writer BOTH to the managers room and then came out saying “ok then we will put a job for this”.
I kept the box… what about those who didn’t? Dual Layer is a very old technology… it is now a days available on EVERY writer because there is no price difference.
Then technician checked and told the device is defective. Then the resepcianist who handles the replacements said that the replacement would take a bit of time because they have to send the defective product to the supplier to get a new one because they don’t have replacement stock of DVD writers that support Dual Layer Recording! They said that they will try to do it in 5 days but also said it might take two weeks!
There must be really an understanding between the customer and the company. I paid Kobian Rs. 4600 in CASH and I did not say “we will get the money in 14 days”. We buy a product BECAUSE we want to use it. We don’t buy products so we have to wait without one for 5-14 days!
Its there fault they didn’t order new stock! I contacted the Director of Kobian Technologies and once I told him that they should have stock of such simple devices like writers that support Dual Layer he came at me saying “if big companies like Carglies sometimes fail to have stock why can’t small companies like us fail to have stock.” His argument is totally out of the question! Just because some one older than me is smoking doesn’t mean I should smoke! So I said “ok” to the director and wondered how uneducated people sometimes are. Can you believe it?
I have been using computers for more than 7 years now in that time all the products that broke where replaced in 2 days or less.
I am just one unhappy customer of Kobian Technologies. But I have a feeling I am not the only one.
I also feel it is time the Government of Sri Lanka stepped in and made some kind of new certification of “Trusted After Sails Service”. So companies like Kobian will tend to lose BIG time in the competitive business world!
