KP to be made a ‘Colonel’

The government is taking measures to recruit Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP, the present leader of the LTTE, to the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) reports ‘Sathimeda Lanka.’ According to this report it has been planned to offer an honorary post in the administrative section of the SLAVF to KP on instructions from the Supreme Commander. The intention of the move is to prepare the foundation for KP’s future course.

Recruitment to the SLAVF would not be an obstacle for KP to have dealings with the Tamil diaspora and to maintain the trust of the diaspora the government is making arrangements to name KP as the chief of the rehabilitation programmes in the North reveal defense sources.

However, a large number of senior officers of the Army have opposed the attempt to confer a post of ‘colonel’ to KP pointing out that his next promotion as a ‘colonel’ would be as a commander which would be harmful to the country.
