Chief of Defence staff, Major Gen. Sarath Fonseka has been appointed as Secretary to the Sports Ministry, in addition to his present post.
It is also learnt that the cutout of Sarath Fonseka which was displayed at the Army Exhibition to mark the 60th Army anniversary, now currently on at the BMICH was removed, and President Rajapkse’s cutout was put in its place.
Mr. Fonseka has expressed his displeasure over this incident to the President and Defense Secretary Gotabaya.

426 CTB buses take party crowd for UPFA Matara Rally – no buses for public
As many as 426 buses, a huge fleet, were used to transport UPFA supporters for the election rally at Matara on the 4th Oct. attended by President Mahinda Rajapase. Lanka e news was able to collect all information of the route Nos. areas and Depots of these buses which transported the massive crowd.
It is significant to note that buses belonging to the Depots: Batticaloa, Kalmunai, Valaichennai, Pothuvil, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Bnadarawela, Bibile, Matale were all used to transport crowds for this rally.
Five Buses Nos. NA 4768, 4571, 4770, 3788 and 4774 of the Batticaloa depot; 2 Buses Nos. 3282 and 4777 of the Kalmuniai depot; were used to transport crowds from Weligama, Kamburupitiya electorates. Potuvil Depot buses Nos.4728 and 5076 were used exclusively to transport people from Kamburupitiya, of which Dallas Alahaperuma is the Organizer.
Due to the Satyagaraha staged by unemployed graduates, three buses Nos. NA 1232, 1145 of Katubedda Depot and bus No.NA 2552 of Watttegama bus Depot, were blocked.
According to information received, about 150 of the buses used for the UPFA Rally were from Depots outside the Southern District.

Dallas the great, now revealed, i also belive that this is true because on tuesday i have travelled from Colombo to Bandarawela and returned on the same day. on our way we have met only 6 CTB buses whereas on other days we meet more than 50-60 buses. Cheers for the corruption and waste of public funds. Let the nature take care of these fellows whereas our idiot voters has no brain to understand these things

Speaking to the media at the UNP media unit today (7) said, the Govt. has got so accustomed to backstreet politics and deceitful tactics that it is unable to get over those habits even when it wishes to. The President who thinks he is successful because he wins elections more by foul than fair means, and by making speeches which appeal only to the gallery.

The Govt. is the architect of this GSP+ muddle. Had President followed Nelsen Mendela and acted democratically and adhered to the international pacts to protect human rights, media rights and Democratic freedoms of the people ; getting the GSP + is no hurdle. But, because the President is trying to emulate Robert Mugabe riding the high horse and acting anti Democratically and despotically that he has to resort to all the deceitful tactics and measures to obtain the GSP+ benefits, he pinpointed.
It is the same overriding backstreet politics trait of the Govt. which is prompting it to present a vote on account instead of the usual budget this year giving false excuses. The Govt. which took the IMF loan in its desperation abjectly surrendering to all the IMF conditions is now realizing that it cannot honor those undertakings given to the IMF via the budget. Hence, it is trying to present the vote on account and circumvent the IMF terms. One of the many stringent conditions of the IMF loan is that the Govt. in its budget should increase its revenue by 4%. The Govt. whose revenue has dropped just within the last six months by 10 % is hard put to meet the IMF requirement. The only solution is to cruelly increase the tax burdens on the already reeling people. Can the Govt. conscionably do that when the people are already reeling paying a 35% tax on all the purchases and goods? he asked.
For the same reason, Investors are not coming to SL, because they have to pay a 64 % tax out of their earnings, he lamented.
Foreign aid to the country has also dwindled –it is down by 66% this year. The Foreign donors have lost faith in the Govt., its credibility and creditworthiness, he pinpointed.
