South PC Election: UNP 'Ranaviru' candidate assaulted

Lanka-e-News 07.Oct.2009 8.40AM) The UNP candidate contesting the Southern Provincial Council election from the Matara District Retd. Captain of the Sri Lanka Army Udaya Dissanayake came under attack by an unidentified gang that came in two vehicles in the early hours of yesterday said CAFFE media spokesman Mr. Keerthi Thennakoon to 'LeN'

Mr. Dissanayake was on his way to a relative’s house at Wellathota by three wheel when the gang waylaid and assaulted him near Dalugoda bridge.

The gang that assaulted him with clubs caused extensive damage to the three wheel.

Captain Dissanayake who received injuries was admitted to the Matara hospital.

'They came in a Defender van disguised as a military official, I know quite well who are the users of this kind of vehicle'

It is sad that a military official who served in the operational areas fighting to protect the country was not allowed to join a political party of his choice.

He alleged that no arrests had been made yet though the police came on the scene and held an investigation.
“I have received death threats over the phone so many times but I did not take them seriously,” he said.

Capt. Dissanayake is undergoing treatment at the Matara Hospital according to sources.

Ban Anarkali’s unlawful Radio channel – UNP candidate Manusha

(Lanka-e-News, Oct.05, 2009, 7.00PM) UNP Southern Provincial Council elections candidate Manusha Nanyakkara, had charged that the advertisement over the Galle District Radio channel urging the public to vote for Anarkali, the UPFA candidate for the Southern PC elections as unlawful and therefore to impose an immediate ban on the advertisement.
Manusha Nanyakkara had lodged a complaint yesterday (4) with the Telecom regulatory Commission against this unlawful channel and had requested a comprehensive investigation into this illegal activity.

This channel not only hasn’t a name, it does not have even a license. It is acting in breach of the election laws and also in breach of the laws of the land. Manushka had pinpointed these out in his complaints to the Elections Commissioner and the Telecom regulatory Commission.
