Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel and former Chief of Staff Donald Perera says Lanka is a staunch supporter of Israel's fight against Palestinian terror. He also says the Palestinians should be offered direct negotiations, without preconditions.

"No one wants bloodshed. The other side (Palestinians) should be offered direct negotiations, without preconditions, to determine its level of seriousness. These talks should focus on trying to reach a compromise that would allow both sides to sign an agreement," he said in and interview with Yedioth Ahronoth.

"In case the other side shows it is not interested in a compromise, (Israel) must move on to the military phase with full force. (The government) will have to explain to the citizens that (Israel) is headed for a long and difficult struggle that will exact a heavy price, but at the end of this struggle the country's situation will be much better," says the ambassador.

"Once you have the public's support, you should fight relentlessly until all of the terror hubs are destroyed. There is no going back."

"For years Israel has aided our war on terror through the exchange of information and the sale of military technology and equipment," says Perera.

"Our air force fleet includes 17 Kfir warplanes, and we also have Dabur patrol boats. Our pilots were trained in Israel, and we have received billions of dollars in aid over the past few years. This is why I asked to be assigned to Israel – a country I consider a partner in the war against terror. Many Sri Lankans admire Israel," says Perera, a native of the capital Colombo.

Addressing the deadly May 31 commando raid on a Gaza-bound Turkish ship, Perera says, "As a military man I can understand that Israel had to protect itself. Due to Sri Lanka's vast experience in fighting terror, I can say that it will always support countries that also oppose (terror)."

Despite its warm relations with Israel, Sri Lanka has also managed to maintain close ties with the Jewish state's biggest threat – Iran. "Sri Lanka is a developing nation in need of assistance. Iran helps us in the civilian realm," he says. "As to the sanctions imposed on (Tehran), these things should be discussed in the different forums. The Sri Lankan government is in favor of imposing military – not civilian – sanctions."

Outrage against envoy

The Palestine Sri Lanka Friendship Society has expressed outrage over the reported comments made by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel Donald Perera who said that Israel should wage war in Palestine if terror outfits reject negotiations.
Co-President of the Palestine Sri Lanka Friendship Society and Government Minister Ataudha Seneviratne speaking to Daily Mirror online said that no matter what Ambassador Perera had to say, the Sri Lankan government’s stand was to sympathize with the Palestinians and push both sides (Israel and Palestine) for negotiations.

“Anyone can make a statement but the official stand of the government is that we sympathize with the Palestinians,” Minister Seneviratne said.

Meanwhile Co-President and Opposition member Imtiyaz Bakeer Markar said the government should make its stand clear on whether the comment made by Ambassador Perera echoes the sentiments of the Sri Lankan government.

He also noted that with President Rajapakse being the founder of the Palestine Sri Lanka Friendship Society he should take action against the Ambassador for making such irresponsible comments to the media.

“Israel itself had double standards. According to one author who had written that the Israelis had helped the LTTE which assisting the Sri Lankan army so it a joke for a former military official in the caliber of Donald Perera making such statements. The Palestinians want freedom and Sri Lanka has been supportive of that objective,” Bakeer Markar said.

He further noted that obtaining weapons and training from Israel does not warrant supporting the country’s war on Palestine and warned that Sri Lanka stands to be isolated from Islamic countries if such statements continue to be made.

    Donald clarifies after uproar

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel Donald Perera says the comments attributed to him in an Israeli newspaper where it was reported that he had said Sri Lanka is a staunch supporter of Israel's fight against Palestinian terror, is totally erroneous.

In a letter sent to the Israeli newspaper the Sri Lankan envoy said Sri Lanka always values her friendship with Israel and this aspect will continue to underpin the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

However he noted that at the same time the policy of the Government of Sri Lanka, which it has followed in consistent consonance with the position of the Non-Aligned Movement, is that the question of Palestine and the pursuit of lasting peace in the Middle East must be resolved through a two state solution whereby Israel and Palestine will co-exist with each other, within secure and intentionally recognized borders.

“Therefore, the contrary view attributed to me in the news item that Sri Lanka is a staunch supporter of Israel's fight against Palestinian terror is a totally erroneous rendering of my comments,” he said.

The comments attributed to the Ambassador in the Israeli newspaper created an uproar in Sri Lanka with the Co-President of the Palestine Sri Lanka Friendship Society and Government Minister Ataudha Seneviratne telling Daily Mirror online that no matter what Ambassador Perera had to say, the Sri Lankan government’s stand was to sympathize with the Palestinians and push both sides (Israel and Palestine) for negotiations.

Meanwhile Co-President and Opposition member Imtiyaz Bakeer Markar had said the government should make its stand clear on whether the comment made by Ambassador Perera echoed the sentiments of the Sri Lankan government.

This is in response to Sri Lankan Ambassador to Israel Donald Perera’s interview with the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth published in the Daily Mirror of Thursday 22 July 2010.

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel Donald Perera made a mockery of him and displayed his complete ignorance of Zionist Jews and their blood stained history of terrorism when he described the Palestinians as terrorists. Of course, as the government representative, he knows better when he said that Sri Lanka is a staunch supporter of Israel's fight against what he ignorantly described as Palestinian terror. Describing Palestinians as terrorists showed that he doesn’t know ABC of Zionism and its history of crime records, lawlessness, deception and conspiracies which turned the once peaceful Middle East into killing field.

Does Donald Perera know that Israel was created by migrant Jews on Palestinian owned lands from where they were driven to refugee camps by means of repeated massacres by Jewish terror gangs such as Irgun, Haganah and Sten. This crime was committed with the complete support of then British Empire which wanted to establish a strong alien human bridge near the Suez Canal to prevent the Arabs from uniting and emerging as a power between Atlantic and Indian Ocean.

Donald Perera further illuminated himself with his ignorance when he said”Israel must move on to the military phase with full force against Palestinians if peace talks fail. This indicated that he knows nothing about peace overtures by Palestinians and the continuous Israeli intransigence, arrogance, land grabbing and other Israeli crimes that have no parallel in the recent history.

It is time that the ambassador visit places such as Deir Yassin where 254 innocent Palestinian women, children and the aged were massacred by Jewish terror gang,Hagana led by Menachem Begin who was later elected prime minister of Israel and awarded coveted the Nobel Peace Prize.

This prompted well known British historian Arnold Toynbee- to state in his book Study of History that 'the evil deeds committed by Zionist Jews against Palestinian forced the Palestinians to flee for their lives only to end up in refugee camps today where-The blood of 9th April 1948 was on the hands of Irgun and the expulsion after 15 May 1948 were on the hands of the Jewish Israel. The very fact that Menachem Begin with such shameful and heinous crime record was elected as prime minister reflects the inhuman nature of the Israeli society and the awarding of Nobel Prize demonstrated the Western complicity. So much to enlighten Donald Perera little bit about Israel’s blood soaked history.

He spoke about Israel helping Sri Lanka in its war against LTTE. Does he know that Israel which described Sri Lankans as Monkey Looking People trained both the LTTE cadres and the Sri Lankan government troops at the same time. Zionist Jews are not interested in helping anyone including Sri Lankans. Instead they help themselves by thriving on bloody conflicts all over the world.

Is Donald Perera aware that all Muslim countries always stood behind the Sri Lankan government and its people in almost every issue including the recent effort to crush the LTTE. Does he know the role played by Pakistan, Iran, Libya, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf where almost a million Sri Lankans live and work in a peaceful environment? Their remittances besides the billions given as aid by these Muslim countries for numerous development projects helps sustain our economy

No doubt Sri Lanka is a small country. However its dynamic foreign policy in all international forums, especially under late Prime Minister Mrs. Srimavo Bandaranaike, won the hearts of people all over the Middle East. In fact the moment you say you are from Sri Lanka their faces brighten with a smile showing their love and affection to this country .Arab dictators may hobnob with the Zionists and their Western supporters. However the oppressed people throughout the Middle East are watching all that is going around with keen interest. Under such circumstances is there any need to jeopardize our age old harmonious relations with Muslim countries based on solid foundations for the sake of the cruel Nazi Jewish state?

In fact Zionist Jews do not have such generosity towards Sri Lanka. All what they do wherever they go is to carefully screen and pick up racist elements to unleash violence against Muslim and pit communities against each other in keeping with their policy of flourishing in violence. The Israelis have entered our island like midnight thieves and started spreading their tentacles from the media to businesses and other establishments and are reportedly cultivating politicians as they always do. There were even reports of Sri Lankans chosen to provide training on agriculture in Israel though Sri Lanka has been an agricultural country with an ancient tank and canal based irrigation network.

It is matter of time that Sri Lanka which has just defeated the LTTE and managed to come out of three decades of ethnic war and trying to bring communities together to move the country ahead, pay the price for the folly of allowing them here. This is the reason why the island’s Muslim community has been deeply concerned about the growing Israeli presence in Sri Lanka. Classic example is what happened to Muslims in India. According to New Delhi based fortnightly Milli Gazette of 1-15 December 2009, Hindu extremist organizations get lot of money from Israel via Europe to kindle communal riots against Muslims. Indian Home Ministry disclosed that in 2008 alone RS 7877 crores were received by Hindu organizations which were used for subversive activities in the form of riots, bomb blasts and creating circumstances detrimental to Muslims. The report added that “investigation give credence to the belief that Hindu terrorists are poisoning the socio-political atmosphere in India and Israel is helping them through financial help”.

Now the question is ‘what is the guarantee that the Israelis would not do the same thing in Sri Lanka’. Is there a dearth of extremist elements in our country?, some of whom, suppose to be in the driving seat of the government, openly demanded that the island’s Muslims leave to Saudi Arabia and the Tamils to India. Can the island afford to take this risk especially at a crucial time in its history like now when all communities in the island are looking forward to a future which would, if not prosperity, at least ensure peace?
