That's because there's more to this. Heard about DRD (Dual Role Devices) or the USB Dual Role Stack Architecture? It is this feature makes it possible for a system to be either a USB device or USB host. Unless you have the DRD functionality it won't work.

That's why you need a special USB sharing cable. Several manufacturers have this.
