,Laptop was switched on. I heard a rattling noise and then the lap got switched off suddenly. And now when i try to switch it on, it says that there is a error in the hard disk and they say to replace it. I want to know what has actually happened and whether there is possibility to recover or repair my hard drive????? it would be great if you could help me in this juncture..:(

you better take it to the place where you bought it, if you have any warranty just keep your mouth shut and let them find the fault :P

Yeap this is the best idea @ the moment, at least to save your HDD. No you can't recover from a bad HDD with rattling noises. Those weird noises says that your HDD heads cannot find sectors of your HDD and the magnetic controlled arm is not functional properly.
