Laugfs Gas, the private supplier of Sri Lanka's two LP gas retailers, told media that the price of a 12.5 kilo gas cylinder needed to be raised by Rs. 350.
Addressing media in Colombo today, the Chairman of the Laugfs Gas, W.K.H. Wegapitiya said the gas companies were facing immense difficulties due to the rising LP gas price in the world market.
The Chairman said that he requested the price hike at the discussion held by the company with the officials of the Consumer Affairs Authority.
Sri Lanka's state owned Litro Gas Company, the major player in the market, has also sought permission for an increase of Rs. 150 for a 12.5 kilo domestic LP gas cylinder.
However, the Consumer Affairs Authority, the competitive authority to warrant the price hike has still not taken a decision.
The gas companies have claimed that the gas prices need to be revised due to the increasing global fuel prices and the recent revision of local fuel prices.
