Java shares the same syntax of C/C++ I'll give out some links that helped me learn C/C++
You should say good bye to VB6 though it's time is up and it is very addictive if you keep on developing in it you'll not feel like learning another language or going beyond that!

ya after windows 7 VB6 run time files will be taken out from windows :(

BTW if u want sample codes try
    pscode.com ;)

pscode.com was where I learned VB6 from! Its great but there are very less amount of other samples. There are good C/C++ samples though

You say you want to separate code blocks but when i came to delphi from VB6 what i thought was code blocks are a pain in the ass!
VB is a special language its not the standard so it makes learning standard languages harder ...as i think its not a good language to start programming in..should try pascal first! its good

www.codeproject.com is a very cool site.. I don't remember all these sites.. I use google..
are u interested in Mobile Application Developing.

I too use google. But for these beginners they just want the basics first then they can learn themselves. If the basics take too long to understand then they'd most probably drop the language..which is common when people try to learn languages like C/C++

Yes I'd like to but not a platform i'd like to develop native apps like for android, linux mobile or symbian :D
