LG sent out invitations for MWC to launch G5 on February 21st
The South Korean electronics maker LG has sent out invitations for a pre-MWC event to officially introduce its flagship G5 smartphone. The invitation came after a teaser, announced last month. To let you remind, the South Korean rival smartphone maker, Samsung also scheduled an event on the same day to bring the refreshed Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge smartphones.
The invitation does have words “COME MEET NEW FRIENDS ON THE PLAYGROUND.” and LG has clearly indicated the launch day as “LG G5 Day”. The event is scheduled at SANT JORDI CLUB, Barcelona, Spain at 14:00 FEB 21st, 2016. This is the first time in a recent couple of years, LG has chosen the MWC as its primary stage to unveil the flagship smartphone, which happened previously at special events in multiple places simultaneously. Samsung used to steal the show with its super high-end Galaxy S line of devices but this time, we will be seeing a direct competition between the two South Koreans smartphone makers.
To quickly run down the specifications, the LG G5 is expected to feature a metal build, this time, around with a unique “magic slot” if the rumors and leaks are to be believed. It will pack a 5.3-inch display with 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution alongside a secondary ticker display, similar one found in LG V10. The device would be powered by Snapdragon 820 Quad-core chipset with Adreno 530 GPU. There will be 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage with the option to expand it via microSD slot. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow will boot with the latest LG UI on top.
The Camera Department will see a huge bump with Dual 16MP rear cameras, which can capture 135-degree Wide-angle capture. Of course, it will be paired with Laser Auto Focus for quick focusing times, Dual LED flash for better low-light photography. There will be 8MP front facing shooter for Selfies. The connectivity options include 4G LTE, Bluetooth v4.1 LE, GPS with a-GPS, Wi-Fi ac, NFC. The device will have a 2800mAh battery, probably a removable one.
