Prof. Senaka Bibile Commemorative Organization says that worsening the prevailing shortage of essential drugs in Kandy Teaching Hospital another 50 odd drugs are completely finished in drug stores at present.
It is reported that because all these are essential drugs, patients’ lives are in critical threat. Medications used in heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, anaesthetic drugs and essential antibiotics are among them.
The organization further states that due to the shortage, both inpatients and outpatients are compelled to buy them from private pharmacies. Due to high cost, most of the patients find difficult to afford. Prof. Senaka Bibile Commemorative Organization says that because many patients will not receive the required drugs there is a risk of their illnesses getting worse.
Last week the ministry of health accepted that such a shortage exists and through media the ministry show off the public that the shortage is settled in all hospitals. Prof. Seanaka Bibile Commemorative Organization emphasises that it quite obvious with this drug shortage in Kandy Hospital that the government is deceiving the public through false propaganda.
