Caution: Before you attempt these tweaks, please make sure that you have a backup of your registry, just incase something goes wrong in the middle.
    Locking Folders:

    * Consider you want to lock a folder named XXXX in your E:\, whose path is E:\XXXX.
    * Now open the Notepad and type the following

    ren xxxx xxxx.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

    * Where xxxx is your folder name. Save the text file as loc.bat in the same drive.
    * Open another new notepad text file and type the following

    ren xxxx.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} xxxx

    * Save the text file as key.bat in the same drive.

    Steps to lock the folder:

    * To lock the xxxx folder, simply click the loc.bat and it will transform into control panel icon which is inaccessible.
    * To unlock the folder click the key.bat file. Thus the folder will be unlocked and the contents are accessible.

    nice work thanks.........

But why don't we use some thing like folder lock or hide xp........
Because it's always better to use less third party software as possible. All these software add things to the registry and inevitably things will slow down.

That is good, but depends on the software u use, if u know the tool well then it's ok, and of course that depends on ur capability of ur pc. (why do u buy a core 2 duo with 4GB ram if ur not using it) if ur interested in i think HIDE XP is a tool that uses much less resources and does the same job with no extra typing. (not good security though, and no encryption),

thanks for ur idea......

'cos this sys is more usable when locking & Travailing Data...

Agree good in traveling data(rather than encrypting).......... ;)

Only problem is any one who knows to do this can create the key if he knows the folder name... What do u think about that... And if u want to travel with secure data why not use a password protected RAR file....

You have to be a bit careful when playing with RAR files. They can get corrupted, and you will not be able to recover the files. Tick "Put recover record" when creating archives which may help you to recover the files in case of file corruption.
