A protracted war has the far reaching targets. And there are also "key targets" like LTTE leaders and strong supporters. Our SLA , deep penetration units have eliminated number of LTTE key personals.

The 2nd Regiment of the Special Forces was raised in 1994 with a focus on amphibious assault, Under-water Demolition (UDT) and sea-borne infiltration (water to land/air or land to water/air) reconnaissance missions. In 1996, the 3rd Regiment of the Special Forces was raised. This unit performs some of the Army’s most secretive of missions in medium and deep battle-space environments. The Alpha Squad of the 3SF is dreaded by the LTTE. Coupled with Military Intelligence, these units infiltrate LTTE areas and carry-out ambushes, offensive raids and sabotage missions.


The kill-ratio for the Alpha Unit is 1-400 (400 LTTE Killed for one SF soldier killed). Only on a very rare occasion have these troops been sighted and ambushed. Even when ambushed many troopers often return to base safely after spending as many as ten days inside the deep jungle, either on their own or as small teams. These extraordinary missions are conducted despite the deployment of the LTTE’s elite troops along the border. The LTTE has also deployed large numbers of its civilian forces, sometimes numbering in their hundreds to hunt a single team. Thanks to hide-and-conceal tactics and superior survival skills imparted to them in their specialized training, these soldiers operating in the deep battle-space have remained an effective and reusable force for the Army. In the fight to capture Vakarai a 40-man amphibious assault-team was used to break the LTTE’s determined forces that had dug-in for a conventional war with the Army. Prior to this exercise the Special Forces carried-out several ambushes and offensive raids inside Vakarai. One such operation resulted in the death of ‘Lt. Col’ Arivu, the Military-in-charge for the LTTE in Vakarai. The LTTE became demoralized and were outmaneuvered and outwitted when the Army switched to unconventional warfare using the Special Forces. Similar ‘softening-up’
operations are now continuing in the Vanni region.

Troops retaliated strongly when a group of LTTE terrorists attempted to launch an attack on the MUHAMALAI FDL’s this (01) morning at 3.00 am.

Troops repulsed the LTTE attack and also succeeded in advancing and occupying their FDL’s for more than an hour.

In the encounter, it is confirmed by ground Troops in the area that Four LTTE bunkers were destroyed and Eight terrorists were killed in the retaliatory attack by the Army .



Five soldiers were reported injured including one seriously.

i'm in UK i worked with many singalis other country people offen ask, in your counry both party are fighting but here how you can maintain such a good feiendship? i'll say this friend ship quality not only here every where tamil and singalis friend ship is same.

I'm in Malaysia... so here majority of my friends are Tamil too.. but it is interesting to notice that they live very comfortably under a heavy majority and ruling of MALAYS and CHINESE.. they do NOT have any problems at all accepting the environment... and often they get step-motherly treatment from both these races yet they understand that practically its impossible to achieve 100% equal treatment for a minority... So you live in UK and so you should know that preference in most cases are given to British NOT Tamils... Forget your situation in SL.. isn't this the situation for Tamils all around the world??? Because Tamils spread all around the world without their own land to call "Motherland"!!! So they nourish the concept of EELAM.. dream about it.. everyday...

Prabakaran understands that and its perfect opportunity to drive this theory into chaos.. while making some business of it.... From history.....

In 1920, Due to increased pressure from Sinhalese or fair representation, British increased the council reps based on population ratios that made 13 Sinhalese members to 2 Tamil members (which clearly suggest at that time 86% of the population was infact Sinhalese). This hit hard on minority Tamils who was always used to unfair 1-to-1 representation. And English happily looked over the Tamils, Sinhalese dispute… This resulted in Tamil leaders led by Ponnambalam Arunachalam to break away from Ceylon National Congress to form separate alliance, fearing Sinhalese would gain more power according to fair ratios

In 1957, Banda – Chelva pact was introduced by Tamil politicians to SWRD Bandaranayake the main demands were

1. Tamil to be official language for administration purposes in north and east (Which will force the other communities to work in Tamil)

2. Immigration to North and East to be restricted (this was clearly done to restrict Sinhalese and other Minorities to be settled in the areas, which will further nourish their separate motherland claim in future)

3. More powers to be given away to regional councils (Tamil politicians were not at all interested of a Federal concept as it would be governed by Sinhalese)

So you see.. it was power greedy pro-British Tamil politicians who started it all.. NOT Sinhalese... this was the FOUNDATION that you are asking for!!! These are FACTS.. NOT propaganda.. you can check anywhere you want.. prove me wrong.. be my guest!!!
