A gang of thugs sent by Minister of Labour ‘Dr.’ Mervin Silva to attack a group of JVP supporters who had been engaged in election campaign of the Common Presidential Candidate Gen. Fonseka at Kiribathgoda town has been beaten until they had fled the area.
According to reports, when Mervin Silva’s thugs arrived to attack the JVP supporters who were engaged in the campaign, the police on duty in the area had withdrawn. The people who had gathered then had started attacking the thugs. At this the police had arrived and carried out a tear gas attack on the masses to save the thugs from being further beaten. However, the thugs had received more than they could bear and had fled in all directions.
