Ranil may be not a good leader but guy can control the country!

Erm.. bro.. how can a person control a country if he is not a good leader... contradicting statements there dude!!

I take it that you have lot of faith in Ranil.. I beg of you... please select someone else in UNP to give your support to.. there are lot of good men there that can actually be very good leaders!!!

that's y we are going backwards!

The rason is that we are bloody lazy, people in SL need to work together regadless who they vote for/////they need to get going, one thing every university f**ker has to understand is that gov is not to give jobs but to facilitate & create them!!!!

    Extraction from LBO,

Most Sri Lankan state institutions are over-staffed due to politicians stuffing them with their supporters over decades.

In recent years, wholesale recruitement to the government has seen nearly 300,000 new workers added to the state sector, a senior minister has said(BOI minister).

State salaries and pensions ate up 55 cents out of every tax rupee in 2007. State workers get tax-free salaries.

Ok.. lets get back to this particular topic.. the issue and its practicality!!

Lets looks at the items that has been taxed!

    2127customletter2jac3.gif

I've seen most of the people in this thread saying that how hard they earn money and stuff like that.. which is true!! Agreed!!

But lets break this down a bit more!!

According to the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment statistics

    As you can see here

by 2006 there were 203841 people working abroad.. and lets take a look at those items again.. how many of us can actually afford those items? I mean.. these are sort of luxury items for an average Sri Lankan still...

According to the Bureau of Foreign Employment all foreign workers are categorized into 6 areas

    1. Professional
    2. Middle Level
    3. Clerical and Related
    4. Skilled
    5. Unskilled
    6. Housemaid

Ok.. lets say for the sake of argument that people can afford these items.. looking at that category I would say these can afford by Professional or Middle level jobs.. I dont see a possibility of buying these items by people any lower in the order than that... (maybe very rarely)

So lets add up according to the sources (2006)

Professional + Middle Level = 1619+6655 = 8284 which is only about 4% of the total amount of Sri Lankans working abroad can afford these!!! So the rest of 96% are not effected!!

Lets further break it down to Middle East countries since lot of people talked about middle east countries as well..

    UAE + Kuwait + Saudi + Qatar + Lebanon = 6307 (Professional + Middle Level)

The percentage that probably can afford these items would be 3.7% ~

So give it another thought.. maybe its not as bad as it may seem as some people want to make a big drama out of it!!

Yes machang I did say people can buy.. true!

But the people whom cannot buy or buy lesser valued items are far greater then whom can buy!!

Besides.. you need to think about Sri Lankan industry too.. if everybody starts importing for cheap how is the companies in SL gonna survive?

And how much is an average salary of a maid? and think those greater number of people can afford them or not? even a 32" LCD would cost well over 180000/= can those people afford it?

Most people buy CRT 29"-32" TV units .because they are cheaper than 21" CRT .

No need to talk about LCD monitors ,coz it's not the question here.:)

BTW how many SL company's make TV's locally ?:oo:

Well.. I dont think its the case of make these items locally... its the case of buying from outside and getting them here when they are already available in your country!

What will happen to their sales? For examaple... If you own a Home Appliances showroom your answer will be different mate!!!
