It is reported that the Govt. has agreed to release LTTE Intelligence unit leader Kumar Pathmanathan alias KP if the LTTE Organizations will extend support to the President Mahinda Rajapake at the upcoming elections.
According to sources , the first round of meeting in this direction was held between Tharuneeyata hetak Chairman Naamal Rajaakse , the son of the President and Emilkanthan , aLTTE leader in London.
Meanwhile , Mahinda Rajapske , Basil Rajapakse , Gotabaya Rajapkse who is in Singapore and many Rajapakse relatives have also had several rounds of discussion with many International Tamil Tiger leaders.
Following the Govt. failing to secure the support of the TNA , the Govt. is trying ways and means through the Int. Tiger chain to exert pressure on the Tamil community in SL to support President Rajapkse . The President has informed the Int. Tigers that he is supported and if he wins , he will ensure that KP is released as soon as he is installed as President.
As a first step , TNA M.P. Sathasivam Kangaratnam who was in custody for 8 months under the terrorism prevention laws was released and he has also been provided with a heavy security blanket , it is pointed out.
According to very reliable sources , Kanagaratnam has been released during the election period on instructions directly given by the President to him to represent the Tamil community and serve on behalf of the President at the elections.
It is also reliably learnt that Senior Ministers are disillusioned and disgusted with these activities of the President who they allege is betraying the country only to emerge victorious at the elections . The politico who is playing a major role in this direction is Wimal Weerawansa ,a defector from the JVP and now the leader of the NFF in whom too the senior Ministers of the Govt. entertain misgivings and suspicion for he is also well noted to be a so called ‘patriot’ who can mask himself well even with a two penny mask bought from the pavement and would barter even his soul and the country at the altar of selfish self propulsion and personal gains.
