Nov 17, Colombo: The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) of Sri Lanka police Monday arrested six persons who accompanied Sri Lanka Minister Mervyn Silva's son Malaka Silva, for assaulting a foreign couple at a night club.

The suspects were arrested after they surrendered to the CCD today. Two of the six suspects were officers of Minister Mervyn Silva's ministerial security division.

The suspects arrested for assaulting a foreign couple at a night club in Colombo have been identified from the video footage of the security cameras at the club.

The suspects include a salon owner, a businessman, a chef, a body guard of Malaka and 2 MSD officers of the Minister. They are residents of Kelaniya, Pannipitiya, Kurunegala and Rajagiriya areas.

The CCD arrested Malaka Silva on November 1 following a complaint lodged by the foreign couple at Bambalapitiya police that they were assaulted by his security personnel.

According to reports, Malaka Silva has allegedly harassed the foreign woman in the night club provoking the woman's partner. In response, Malaka Silva's security personnel have assaulted the foreign couple.

The foreign couple suffered injuries during the assault and both the couple and Malaka Silva lodged complaints at police after the brawl.

Minister's unruly son has been involved in several similar brawls before. In July last year he was assaulted by a group after he made advances to a young female at the car park of the popular ODEL store in Town Hall, Colombo.

The six suspects will be produced in the Colombo Magistrate's Court today, the police said. The junior Silva has been remanded till November 18.
