Sri Lanka police say a suspect has been arrested over an alleged rape of a tourist at a hotel in Dikwella in Matara district.
The woman lodged a complaint with the Dikwella police stating that a man entered into her hotel room in the night, raped her and escaped.
The victim, a German national, told the police that she stayed in the hotel as she had come to the country to obtain treatment for a back pain.
The suspect is a 29- year-old man who resides in Dikwella area.
Police sources say the tourist, who was at the hotel with her partner, has had drinks until around 2.30 a.m. and due to the alcohol, had fallen into a deep sleep before waking up to discover someone else was with her.
