We have a strong feeling that Mangala,Hakeem and Mano Ghaneshan are highly susceptible for accidents,food poisioning, bullets or bombs.Even 50 security people can not protect them.They have to stay out of country.This is not the best time to do politics in Sri Lanka.Let people choose what they want.Just stay out of politics.

Mangala What are you complaining about?. You got together with JVP and got CBK to throw out the UNP Govt. Next you ganged up with JVP (Wimal Weerawansa and got MR elected as President. Your problem is that once MR's brothers came in to the picture you became a NOBODY. You were never a MR man so what drove you to do all these things for which you repent now.

It's news to me hear that we have a seperate trusted security officer service trained specially in VIP security. Don't act silly my friend. You are no different to any other citizen of country. Its the risk you take being in dirty Politics.

He is a politician that should be respected. Unlike people who changed parties to get ministries, He gave up power to bring out the truth about the Government -LTTE deal. He did not do it because he wanted power but to bring out the truth. But the foolish people don't realise this. They are drunk with the Nationalistic policies being marketed.

I do not fully agree with him on certain comments he made on the achivements at war front and it gave public opinion that he is not concenrned on national interests and created an image as an LTTE lenient person in the publics mind. Whatever said and done, current government was able to defeat LTTE - which a lot of people thought was impossible. He should have acted with more responsibility atleast thinking of his political future. But I am one who admire him as a leader who could deliver wonders to the country. Initially he expand telecom sector, did a good job at UDA, making Colombo and Matara beautiful etc.. He is a good asset to the country when it comes to development activities and need to protect him for future.

My understanding is that Colonbo infrastructure is crumbling after years of neglect. I know the sewer system in the city is ancient. I remember hearing a few years back that over30% of the water pumped into the system leaks out. I wonder how much sewage leaks out. You could almost say that Colombo is one step away from turning into the familiar fallout 3 wasteland youth have been playing this year.

So long as convicted criminals are accommodated in the Parliament and Provincial Council, threats to life will continue. Instead of checking these undeserving characters, they are given protection. There It is time to realize that these criminals are a liability to the country. Mangala, you have to highlight this issue.

What is evident from most comments is the utter disregard of people for democracy and human rights by making politically motivated comments. I am ashamed to be called a Sri Lankan amongst these people. Mangala has done many a service to Sri Lanka; don't forget what he did in terms of the reconstruction at the airport, housing programs and other infrastructure projects. If we don't protect these people now we will only have clowns like Mervin to run our country. And there will be no future for our children.

To Dr. Kiss Kiss, not that I don't in some way agree with your statement but you have to acknowledge that Nationalism is a dangerous thing in the wrong hands. While it is good to have national pride and be patriotic, the same force enabled the rise of the Nazi party in the 1930's and enabled the US to embark on an imperialistic campaign in Iraq not too long ago. As with all things moderation is the key, too much of anything is a hazard to our well-being, that is the point Dr. Hooo was probably trying to make.

Closer to home, it is a force in the LTTE as well. Of course the key is all things in moderation, too much of anything is a hazard to our well-being, that is the point Dr. Hoooo was probably trying to make. Nationalism is great, up to a point, we have to be careful and watch for that line… hopefully before we cross it.

SLFP (M) leader MP Mangala Samaraweera has informed IGP Jayantha Wickramaratne in writing about threats on his life by some elements and requested the latter to provide him with trusted security officers trained in VIP security.
