Massive blast in Sri Lankan port

Oct 18, 2006 (AFP) - A powerful explosion on Wednesday ripped through the port of Galle in southern Sri Lanka, as a naval base there came under attack, police said.

Gunfire was also reported in the area near the Dakshina naval facility, located 110 kilometers (70 miles) south of the capital Colombo, a local police official in Galle told AFP by telephone.

Galle Harbour under Terrorist attack.....

The LTTE terrorists have launched an attack at the Galle harbour and SL Navy camp Dakshina at 8.30 this morning.

It is said that three explosions have occurred in this attack. Naval troops are retaliating LTTE the attack and the fire exchange is still going on.

The LTTE terrorists have launched an attack at the Galle harbour and SL Navy camp Dakshina at 7.45 this morning.

Three explosions have occurred in this attack. Naval troops are retaliating LTTE the attack and the exchange of fire is still on.

Few casualties have also been reported and they were rushed to the teaching hospital in Karapitiya.

Reinforcement are been sent to the location.
