No decision has been taken on declaring May 2 a public holiday in view of May day falling on Sunday this year while a firm decision will be announced tomorrow regarding the additional holiday, Minister of Public Administration John Seneviratne said.
The Labour Ministry has however requested that Monday be declared a holiday for the private sector.

There is no need for an additional holiday for May Day due to it falling on a holiday this year, Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs John Seneviratne declared. He expressed that everyone will be able to celebrate May Day as it falls on a Sunday this time around.
Therefore the government has decided not grant an additional public holiday, the Minister further clarified stating that, there will be no celebration of Maya Day through declaring May 02 as a public holiday.
