There is no need for an additional holiday for May Day due to it falling on a holiday this year, Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs John Seneviratne declared. He expressed that everyone will be able to celebrate May Day as it falls on a Sunday this time around.
Therefore the government has decided not grant an additional public holiday, the Minister further clarified stating that, there will be no celebration of Maya Day through declaring May 02 as a public holiday.
The Labour Ministry had previously requested that Monday (May 02) be declared a holiday for the private sector.
