Why didn't Yuvi think twice before making such a statement after watching what happened to his team mate Dravid... hik hik Mumbai: Indian one-day vice-captain Yuvraj Singh, who has been vulnerable to quality spin in the past, said Sri Lanka’s new spin sensation Ajantha Mendis is not unplayable and with time the batsmen will master him.
"Mendis has really bowled well in the Tests and his confidence must be sky-high. Along with Muralitharan, they form a very potent attack but he is not unplayable and we are working on a gameplan to counter him during the One-Day series," Yuvraj Singh has been quoted as saying by The Times of India on Wednesday.
"We will try and play our natural game against him and see how it goes. He does not bowl at 150 kmph so there is no reason to be frightened of him. When Murali was new to international cricket, even he bothered many top batsmen and is still bothering them. But with time, batsmen learn more and adjust to the situations," added Yuvraj, who himself struggled against Murali in the early stages of his career.
Even the experienced Test side had brushed aside Mendis threat before the Test series but paid heavily when the plucky spinner went on to create a world record by claiming 25 wickets in a three-match Test series, which the hosts won 2-1.
However, Yuvraj said that he has been working hard in the nets and was trying out a few shots to counter the Lankan spinners.
"I should say I am ready for the one-day challenge. I have been working hard in the nets. I have also practiced some shots which I hope will help me counter the Lankan spinners," the stylish left hander said.
